Joseph Fowles  1810-1878, was a fine marine painter when he arrived in Sydney from London in 1838.

exhibited a number of Ship Portraits and Marine paintings at the first and second exhibitions of the Society for the Promotion of the Fine Arts in Australia, Sydney, in 1847 and 1849.  Also at the Fine Art Exhibition at the Mechanics School of Arts, Sydney in 1857.

1810-1878  Fine artist, Marine, Equestrian and Sydney Buildings.  Trained in London. Arrived Australia 1838.
Taught drawing widely in Sydney including at Fort Street and the Kings School. Best known for his extensive drawings of Sydney Buildings.  Advertised for commissions.
