Ethel Kathleen Cole was born at Beccles, Suffolk in 1892, daughter of William Hammond Cole (1837-19 April 1917), FRGS, in the India Service, and his wife Josephine Harriet née Johnson. Ethel studied at the Slade School of Fine Art winning first prize for drawing and obtained a first-class certificate in drawing, painting, and perspective. A landscape painter in oil and watercolour, black & white and poster artist, illustrator, lithographer, and teacher. Ethel exhibited at the Grosvenor Galleries; New English Art Club; Friday Club; Redfern Galleries and the Royal Academy. In 1939, Ethel Kathleen Cole was an art teacher living in Sussex until she died in 1976.
