D.G. Reid was born in Scotland in 1862. He studied art at the Lancastrian School in Edinburgh and at the Royal Art Society of New South Wales under Julian Rossi Ashton and A.J Daplyn. He exhibited with the Royal Art Society of New South Wales from 1890 and was elected an associate member in 1929. He was also a regular exhibitor with the newly formed New South Wales Society of Artists and was a committee member from 1899. D.G. Reid is represented in the art Gallery of New South Wales, the Manly Art Gallery and the Mitchell Library in New South Wales.
