Henri Farge was born in Paris in 1884 and studied painting and engraving in Venice and Rome. He exhibited from 1925 in Deauville, Rome, Paris (where he won a silver medal) then went to New York in 1929 and worked for Vogue. He showed himself to be a great observer of life in the city and surroundings of these places.
He died in 1970.

This exhibition was based on a wonderful collection of his watercolour sketches bought in Paris in 1983 by John Barkes. They depicted his delightful use of colour, interest in fashion and skill of capturing the moment.
