Kovaleva studied at the Tavrichevski Art School in the 1950s and at the Repin Academy, 1960-1965, under Prof. Oreshnikov. From 1965 to 1968, she was assistant to Oreshnikov. In 1969, she joined the Artists' Union. She is currently Professor of Drawing at the Repin Academy
