Having grown up in the Warrnambool area Shay always held in the memory the relationship between various towns and their nearby volcanic hills and lakes.
It is a pastoral region of great geological distinction as a number of 19th century artists recorded, including Eugen von Guerard (1812-52) and Louis Buvelot (1814-88).
Here, Shay's drawing centres on the rhythmic relationships between Camperdown and the nearby scoria cones.
