The artist lived in Auckland, New Zealand, from 1965 to 1971 where, to her delight, there were many volcanic cones and craters linking her to early memories of Koroit and Tower Hill.
This formation is located on the southern edge of Auckland.
Here, Shay emphasized the big buckled rhythms of the two craters, one with a small internal cone. She used the word `Lacuna' meaning cav ity or space.
