BORIS ZAOZERSKI

Boris is a talented and successful artist who these days is in great demand in the Auction Houses of Paris, France and Europe, for his still-life paintings in country settings - elaborate floral paintings, of depictions of country produce - piles of fruit, autumn produce, etc.

John Barkes had been buying his early work - mainly  sketches - from the Soviet period, for some years, when he found his work prominently featured in a book 300 Years of Life Drawing in Russia, (1700 to the present day).  “Here was Boris, our mate, in this smart coffee-table book showing his country’s best artistic achievements from the last 300 years.”

“Next time we went to the Zaozerski Studio, we quietly asked him if he had any drawings or paintings of nudes.”  Boris said “They are all in museums”.

“What about your student works?”  “They are all in museums, too - They are the ones the curators wanted most”

About a year later he phoned me.  He had given a couple of his earliest Nude paintings to his parents.   They had been mortified, hid them in a cupboard in case relatives or visitors should see them.  Years later, they came to light, after his parents had died.   He had forgotten about them and recently came across them under his bed at his Dacha (weekender).  I have sold one and have one left.
