In Plantation #4, 2002, the brazen pine plantations face down the eucalypts which lay gently across the landscape. The plantations fill a dense geometry that ignores watercourses and soil-poor hilltops. Their rational grids have no local reference point. This alien geometry is disconnected from the topography and evidences the dictates of distant landowners. Theirs is a short-term vision while the eucalypt, more sparsely and more sensitively placed, indicates a familiarity with the terrain developed over millennia.   - Essay excerpt by Jenny McFarlane, Helen Maxwell Gallery, Canberra, 2002
