Daniel Rutter Long
was from Oxfordshire in England. He decided to emigrate to Australia, arriving in Melbourne with his family in late 1840. He set up a pharmacy in Bourke St., Melbourne, and in 1856 his son and son in law took over the business.  His son-in-law left in 1861 and Daniel resumed only to retire fully in 1880. His youngest s
on, Mr Charles William Long, died in Sydney 1921. He was one of the oldest members of the Sydney Stock Exchange at 73 yrs old.
