View of Mount’s Bay, St. Michael’s Mount, Cornwall 1866
Watercolour on paper on linen T.C. Moyle worked between 1866-1881 and was one of the best-known naive artists of the goldfields. His scrupulously detailed and highly keyed watercolours of mining companies’ shafts and claims at Ballarat and Creswick are of considerable historical interest. Little is known about the artist. There were many Cornish miners living in the Ballarat area at this time. Moyle is represented in the collection of the State Library of Victoria, the Ballarat and Castlemaine Art Galleries and historical museums in Creswick and Kyneton
