Painter, printmaker and teacher

Born in Carlton, in 1939 Mary Macqueen began painting in watercolours, studying drawing under George Bell from 1946-47 and printmaking at RMIT from 1956-58, the latter where she later taught drawing and printmaking. In 1945 she held the first of many solo exhibitions

She was essentially a graphic artist, mainly producing works on paper, with a strong foundation in drawing but exploiting the decorative possibilities of colour. Her favoured print medium was lithography and her preferred subjects animals, birds and landscape
