Dora Chapman
1911 - 1995
"Dora Chapman had been an outstanding student at the South Australian Art School, an extremely capable traditional painter, whom the war had brought to Sydney working in Arm Education. She was considerably influenced by her husband [James Cant], but on her return to South Australia, where she became a tower of strength as lecturer in drawing at the South Australian School of Art for many years, she moved towards a quietly harmonised abstraction and established a reputation as a distinguished silk-screen printer." Jean Campbell, Early Sydney Moderns, John Young and the Macquarie Galleris 1916-1946, Craftsman House 1988, p178
