Joyce Meier

1917 - 2015

Joyce Meier studied at the National Gallery School 1937-1941.  She regularly painted with fellow students Graeme King, Ian Armstrong, Laurie Phillips and later Fred Williams. Her studies were interrupted by the War, and as a VAD she was called up for service.  After the War, Joyce returned to the National Gallery School and studied under Alan Sumner who became her mentor and life-long friend.

Her work is full of colour and joy,  Many early works depict  scenes of school children and mothers seen in the park inEast Melbourne near her home. Later she turned her hand to wildlife portraits and hand-pressed masonite cuts which she made on her kitchen table.

All the works  come from the estate of the artist.
Many of the prints are unframed.
