In my early twenties I opened a gallery above an antique shop in High St Armadale. I moved to my current location in Carlton in 1986.
We promote the idea that paintings and drawings by major artists are affordable and fine examples can be acquired for much less than often thought. Visit the gallery to find out more or ask for suggestions
Over the years we have held regular catalogue exhibitions of Early Australian Watercolours and Drawings; Early Australian Painters; Modern Australian Paintings; Artists Exhibiting in London 1880 - 1940; Australian Women Artists; Australian Prints; Sidney Nolan and Clifford Bayliss.
Buyers have included all State galleries, State libraries in Victoria, NSW and Tasmania, National Maritime Museum and War Memorial and many regional galleries as well as private collectors Australia-wide and overseas.
Since 1998 we have also held regular exhibitions of Artists from St. Petersburg, Ukraine, Crimea and Siberia with our good contact, John Barkes, in London.
In 2007 we opened a second gallery in Hampton in partnership with Caroline Chesterfield where we exhibit contemporary works. We also hold regular exhibitions from Mangkaja Arts in Fitzroy Crossing.
In 1990 I was appointed a Government approved valuer under the Tax Incentive for the Arts Scheme. In 2004 I was appointed to the Committee on Taxation Incentives for the Arts and in 2011 I was made Chair of the Committee.
Since 2004 I have also been on the Collections Committee, State Library of Victoria.
In recent years, the gallery has thrived because of the help and support of Beverly Maclean, Rena Tovey and Caroline Chesterfield (pictured) and my wonderful family
We are also lucky enough to have the support of Edward and John Barkes who have been providing us with interesting pictures for the last 28 years.
Gallery services include valuations; re-hanging your paintings; advice regarding sale and purchase of paintings; restoration and framing services.
