About the Gallery

The gallery was established in 1983 in High St Armadale and moved to the current location in Carlton in 1986.   We have about 1000 works in stock. Mostly museum quality.   About 200 pictures are usually on view in the main gallery or the basement gallery.  It is advisable to check our website before visiting the gallery if you have specific interests. Then contact the gallery to ensure works are still available or enable us to get them ready.

We believe paintings and drawings by major artists are affordable and fine examples can be acquired for much less than often thought.

I hold regular catalogue exhibitions of Early Australian Watercolours and Drawings; Early Australian Painters; Modern Australian Paintings; Artists Exhibiting in London 1880 - 1940; Australian Women Artists; Australian Prints and a Christmas exhibition where everything is priced under $1,500. One-man exhibitions have included Sidney Nolan; Mary Hammond; Vic O'Connor; Jan Senbergs; Barry Dickins; Celia Perceval; Brigid Cole Adams; Jeff Ferris and Clifford Bayliss and works by these artists are always in stock.  All our works are available when our catalogues are published

Buyers have included all State galleries, State libraries in Victoria, NSW and Tasmania, National Maritime Museum and War Memorial and many regional galleries as well as private collectors Australia-wide and overseas.

Since 1998 we have also held regular exhibitions of Realist Artists from St. Petersburg, Ukraine, Crimea and Siberia in conjunction with our good friend John Barkes, London.

In 2007 we opened a second gallery in Hampton where we concentrated on more contemporary work.  We held regular exhibitions from Mangkaja Arts in Fitzroy Crossing and held an exhibition of prints from Northern Editions at Charles Darwin University.  We also held many mixed and solo collector exhibitions. Sadly, when the building was sold in 2015 we closed the gallery to concentrate on our Carlton Gallery.
